Quiz Night, "for old times' sake..."

If there's one "barkada gimik" I both dread and look forward to at the same time (really, that is possible!), that would be Murphy's Quiz Night - a geeky pub thing, which Mela introduced to me 2 years back. If you're not familiar with this yet - it's a live quiz and a battle against other groups, given questions about anything under the sun in the universe! My geek friends got addicted to it that it became a weekly thing for us, sometime in 2010 ...even though our team never made it to the top (okay, I admit.. we never even got up from the last place, except once, when Mela was still here - I think we were 3rd to the last, or middle. hahahah!). We used to enjoy Murphy's free round of drinks, as prize for the losing team (gee...), until we finally decided that this thing was never meant for us!

Last night, we gave it another chance ...because Bev is going to migrate outside the country soon (waah, BUHUHU!), so we had to savor the fun things we know - and Murphy's quiz night is certainly one of them. We got there with the motto, "it's okay to lose, we're here for old times' sake anyway..." HAHA!


The night's unforgettable question was: What is the brand name of disinfectant household cleaner, marketed for cleaning, disinfecting food surfaces and odor removal, and was distributed by Lehn & Fink, Inc. as a feminine hygiene product in the late 1920s?  Answer: Lysol. WTF? (We got that correct, supposedly, if only we didn't erase it -- we all thought it's impossible for it to be a feminine hygiene product! ikaw ba eh gagamit ng Lysol as feminine wash!? hahaha!)

Then, as always, there was a question that made us say "aaahk, I wish ____ was here!".

We wished Mela was here!!! She's the only one I know who read Percy Jackson! And ironically, she even mentioned this in her blog, which she posted hours before the quiz night! arrrrgh! Mela, I will read your blog word per word from now on. hahaha! Btw, answer is Rick Riordan.

Fast forward to our final score - we unbelievably ranked 2nd to the last. The mediocre in me says that it's actually a miracle, coming from N straight losses (hahaha!), and that it's not bad after all since we had just 5 brains in our team ...in fact we were one of the small teams that night! You know, we used to be 8-10 heads, and yet we ranked last. Oh, what a shame! I really love and hate those days. haha!

Then the inferior in me wishes to have the last position instead -- so that at least we got the free drinks. Oh well, I miss the old times. HAHAHA!

So, is that it? We're not ending this on a high note? Well, maybe this is a sign that we'll have to visit Murphy's again in the future - Most likely when Bev's here for a vacation and when we're all refreshed to take this challenge once again. Our time will come. hahaha!
